What do you like most about your country?
Beautiful nature, very multicultural population (which brings a great variety of food), and friendly, open people.
If you would recommend one place for a tourist to visit in your country, where would that be?
Either Toronto, for the ethnic diversity and food, or British Columbia, for the beautiful mountains and ocean.
Where you an A student?
Almost always… but not in Grade 12 Calculus.
What was your dream job when you were a youngster?
A writer or an artist. I also thought about being a teacher.
When you have one day off at home, how would you spend it?
Without my son and dog? Watching Netflix, reading, baking, and a hot bath.
How would you network and meet new friends in a new country?
Join an activity. Or have a baby, that’s a good way to meet people!
How would you describe Lund in three words?
Cozy, academic, family-friendly.
How would you describe Sweden in one word?
Lagom? Or, very organized and calm.
What is your role at the IESL?
Senior English teacher (and currently year 6 as well) and Department Head for English & Modern Languages.
What made you decide to join IESL?
I worked at IES Gävle for two years and then moved here while I was on maternity leave. I had a good experience at IESG and it was a smooth transition. Also, I enjoy working with other foreign staff, particularly Canadians :).
What did you do before you started at IESL?
Maternity leave, and before that, two years teaching Years 8 & 9 at IESG. Before that, I completed a Master’s degree in Toronto.
Do you have any clear visions you would like to achieve?
I’d like there to be a detailed, well-planned English curriculum from Years 4 to 9 (in terms of content). Lgr 11 doesn’t provide this kind of structure or detail. I’d like to help students improve their ability to make connections and draw conclusions in my subject, as well as between subjects.
Where are you in three years time?
Probably in Lund, working here at IESL.
Name one unexpected similarity you have with one of your colleagues
Ms Sundin and I have worked together before! About 6 years ago we were both project leaders for a Canadian youth program and met a few times at staff development events. We lost touch and reconnected again here in Lund. Both of us moved here for partners (both named Magnus).

Parental leave, VAB days, and the healthy lifestyle.
What do you prefer to eat?
Chocolate, Indian food, sushi, Caribbean food, baked goods, etc.
Who is the most famous person you have met?
Machel Montano, a huge “soca” star (singer/performer) from Trinidad & Tobago.
What sport would you never practice?
Volleyball and baseball.
What TV show(s) are you a bit embarrassed to tell that you are watching?
The Bachelor. So embarrassing.
What social media are you using?
Facebook and Instagram.
Where do you go for your dream holiday?
Somewhere tropical, like the Caribbean, or Italy.
