Johan BillingWhat is your role at the IESL?
I am the building manager which means that I tend to all things that is related to the building and the school yard and I am also responsible for all IT related issues in the school, making sure the printers are doing what they should and that students can get a new password to the network if they’ve forgotten their old one. It’s a very versatile role and I never know what will happen on any given day which makes this job perfect for me.

What made you decide to join IESL?
Mr. Olsson – whom I knew from before – asked me if I wanted to join the staff and since I felt it was such an exciting task to open up a new school I said yes. I really love my job which makes the commute from Malmö a little less hard – that is the only downside to living in Malmö and working in Lund,

What did you do before you started at IESL?
I worked as a TV and video editor at a production company in Malmö but I’ve also had other interesting jobs; I’ve been working as a bartender, as a caretaker at a huge company headquarters, as a demolition worker and as a light technician at a rock club just to name a few of the things I’ve done. In the crazy 1990’s I was also member of a quite successful musical group called S.P.O.C.K with several tours around Sweden and the rest of Europe.

What are your challenges at IESL?
My main challenge is to make sure the school is safe for the students and staff but also to tend to all the little (and sometimes big) things that happen on a day to day basis.

Do you have any clear visions you would like to achieve?
Not really – my job is different every day and I like it that way.

Where are you in three years time?
Hopefully still here at IESL.

Name one unexpected similarity you have with one of your colleagues.
We are all human, at least most of us. 😉

Give three good advices to your students.
Be curious, Be nice. Always listen more than you speak – you have one mouth but two ears…
